Recreation Sites on the Tonto National Forest Reopen for the Season

PHOENIX, March 24, 2015.  For Immediate Release– Popular recreation sites on the Mesa Ranger District will open for the spring/summer season.  The following sites will open for the season on Saturday, March 26, 2016:

Lower Salt River Recreation Area

  • Pebble Beach

Canyon Lake Recreation Area

  • Laguna
  • Boulder Keyhole (back area)
  • Acacia Keyhole (back area)

In addition, the following recreation sites requiring Tonto Passes are currently open:

Lower Salt River Recreation Area

  • Water Users
  • Blue Point
  • Coon Bluff
  • Phon D Sutton
  • Granite Reef

Canyon Lake Recreation Area

  • Palo Verde
  • Acacia (front/main area)
  • Boulder (front/main area)

Saguaro Lake Recreation Area

  • Saguaro Del Norte
  • Butcher Jones

Fishing locations on the Lower Salt River include Water Users, Blue Point, Coons Bluff, Phon D. Sutton, and Granite Reef.

Kayaking opportunities on the Lower Salt River include:  Water Users, Blue Point, Coons Bluff (water levels permitting) Phon D Sutton, and Granite Reef (year-round).  Kayaking is also popular at Saguaro Lake in the Butcher Jones area.

Equestrian Access on the Lower Salt include the Bulldog entrance on Bush Highway, Bulldog entrance on Usery Pass Road, Water Users, Coons Bluff, and Phon D. Sutton.
